DEMATAMAL WIHARAYA

Dematamal Viharaya  is located at Helagama,on the Buttala-okkampitiya  road. It is located in the middle of paddy field .world akkalat sthupa and the bo tree surrounded by the green paddy from the road itself.Though much attention is not paid by the average tourists ,histori of the temple complex dates back to the third century bc. 

According to the folklore it is said that the stupa is built by king a very beautiful There is also very beautiful ancient story related to it.

Lec egend has it that peince Saddathissa hid  in this temple during a quarrel b queen prince Gemunu and prince Saddathissa.

Dematamal Wiharaya is valuble historical place in sri lanka. The guard stone,which is the only female and male figure in sri lanka,is located here .Dematamal Viharaya being in my village makes be proud.
